The Faculty of Humanities has a long and rich history of receiving students from all corners of the world. Over the years, hundreds of international students have graduated from the Faculty and gone on to pursue successful careers in their selected fields.

With more than 800 international students representing 60+ different nations drawn to its outstanding academic programs, the Faculty of Humanities is located at the heart of Budapest and at “the gates of Europe”. On  academic levels (Foundation, Bachelor and Master level), students can choose from over 50 degree programs. Additionally, four Doctoral schools offer a total of 70+ PhD programs.

Faculty of Humanities participates in the Stipendium Hungaricum programme. Stipendium Hungaricum is a scholarship excellence programme for foreign students, founded by the Hungarian Government in 2013. The program aims to promote cultural understanding, economic and cultural relations between Hungary and other countries. The scholarship can be awarded to citizens from almost 80 countries and sending partners for full degree or partial (exchange) studies. Faculty of Humanities has around 2000 applicants each year, therefore the world's most excellent students can come and study at our Faculty.

We also take part in the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship programme. The programme aims to support the professional advancement of the scholarship holders with high-quality Hungarian higher education while improving their Hungarian language skills and strengthening their Hungarian identity. The programme has growing interest in each year.

From year to year Faculty of Humanities welcome approximately 550 incoming exchange students, including 350 Erasmus+ students. Top 10 countries incoming mobility: Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, China, Poland, Romania, Turkey. Our Faculty has an active agreement with over 350 Erasmus+ partner institutions, in 30 different countries. Effectively, the Faculty proudly covers 85% of the Erasmus+ country network.

ELTE is proud to be part of the CHARM-EU Alliance, a CHallenge-driven Accessible Research-based Mobile European University alliance uniting nine higher education institutions co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. The CHARM European University Alliance was born in January 2019 between the University of Barcelona (coordinator), Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, the University of Montpellier and Eötvös Loránd University Budapest and its application for funding was accepted by the European Union in June 2019. Developed together with Member States, higher education institutions and student organisations, the concept of the European Universities attracted applications from 54 alliances during the first Erasmus+ call.
