General information
All BA programmes require 180 credits to complete to be able to graduate. The 180 credits must be the ones described in the programmes’ curricula. (You find your curriculum HERE. Pay attention to the year of admission!)
Each BA curriculum (study unit list) contains a 50-credit specialisation module, usually named “Differentiated Studies”. This module can be completed either by taking a specialisation offered by your own BA programme, or by selecting a minor programme, which is a 50-credit package of another study programme. We often refer to the process of selecting a specialisation/minor as “MODULE SELECTION”.
The specialisations/minors must be started in the 2nd year of the BA studies, except for some programmes (more information in the study unit list of the relevant programme).
Therefore, students must choose the specialisation or minor by the end of the first year, or earlier. The application for the programmes in Neptun is in May-June every academic year.
- The specialisation options should be checked in your programme’s curriculum.
- You can read more about the minors HERE.
MODULE SELECTION (specialisation/minor registration) 2025/2026
Neptun is open for specialization registration from 00:00 19 May 2026 until 16:00 11 June 2026. The specialisation registration is available in Neptun under Menu/Studies/Module selection during the above-mentioned period.
To be able to register for any specialisations, first you have to register for the 2026/2027/1 semester (GUIDE for semester activation)
Further technical information:
The module selection takes place in Budapest and in Szombathely in parallel, but in two independent module selection periods.
- The Budapest module selection period is called " Track selection 2026/27/1". (This is the one you need.)
- The Szombathely module selection period is called "Track selection SEK 2026/27/1". (Please, ignore this one.)
All first-year students of BA programmes are eligible to select a module (specialisation or minor). You are also eligible to register for a module if you are in your second or third year, but you have not selected a module in Neptun yet.
In case you have questions about the module selection process, contact your coordinator at kertesz.emese@btk.elte.hu.
For students of English and American Studies BA
If you are a student of English and American studies BA, please, take the following programme-specific criteria into account during the module selection (specialisation, minor):
In addition to the application, you submitted to the School of English and American Studies (SEAS) at the end of your first semester, you also have to register your choice in Neptun at the end of your second semester. This is essential for your academic progress, so we kindly ask you to register your track (English or American) in Neptun, in addition to the application at SEAS.
Please, select the American track ONLY if you have been accepted for it at the end of the first semester. Do not select this track if you have not been admitted, because your Neptun application will be rejected, too.
Please note that you also have to register your choice in Neptun if you would like to take the English track. The English track will be added to your Neptun only if you register your choice in this module selection period in Neptun, it is not automatic. Please, do not miss this step.
Besides the English or American track, you also have to select a second module. This may be a specialisation offered by the English and American Studies BA programme (subject to prior departmental admission), or a minor specialisation.
During the English and American Studies BA, students have to complete two 50-credit specialization modules OR a 50-credit specialization and a 50-credit minor programme:
- Main specialization (track)
- Differentiated Studies:
- 1 from the 5 specializations offered by SEAS OR
- a minor programme of 50 credits
Students have to register their choice both at SEAS and in Neptun.
Specializations have to be registered in Neptun by the student at the end of the first year of the BA (even if they do not require an application interview). The application is valid only if you register it in Neptun as well!
