Main research areas
Comparative Literature
I study the history of literary studies in international contexts from the fin-de-siècle to the 1990s, the history of translations and cultural transfers. This research angle is complemented by my work on issues of censorship, authoritarianism, and memory.
Area Studies
I am interested in Central European literatures and cultures in the 20th century, with a particular focus on anthropological ideas, migration, emigration, and how politics comes into play with fiction.
Contemporary History
My research has focused on the Cultural Cold War with a specific focus on US, Soviet and Hungarian cultural diplomacy. I have been also working on the post-1956 refugees and their global impact and its legacies, and the cultural history of dissent in state socialist East Central Europe.
