The HUN-REN – ELTE Research Group for Interdisciplinary Archaeology organizes an international conference in cooperation with the Department for Classical Archaeology.

The conference titled “Acculturation, Romanization, Roman Civilization – International conference on the phenomena and processes of integration into the Roman Empire” will explore the complex process of Romanization as evidenced by the archaeological material of the different provinces. More than 50 researchers will give presentations from numerous countries of Europe from England and Spain through Germany and Italy to Bulgaria and the Ukraine.

The presentations will cover a wide array of topics: settlements and architecture, burial customs, attire, glass objects, pottery, sculpture, ship building, etc. as well as the multidirectional process of cultural transmission between the Roman and barbarian populations both inside and outside the Roman Empire from the late Republic to the fifth century AD. The conference is open to all interested researchers and students.
